YES OR NO?

Hello parents,

Apologies for the brief hiatus! Sometimes one needs a break to regain strength and insight.

Let me relay a brief conversation that I had with my son today. (He is four).

So I just got them home from school and was making some on-demand chocolate bread. He walks up to me in the kitchen and quizzes:

Wisdom: Daddy?
Me: hmm?
Wisdom: Are you hot?
Me: hmmmmm
Wisdom (exasperated): Yes or No?
Me: uhhmmm Yes, Yes I am.
Wisdom: Okay, you can use the fan in my room.
Me. ???

What got me was the weird expression he had on when he asked "Yes or No?"

Just then I remember hearing my wife scold them when they answer with unintelligible words (hmmmm, ahh, ...)

This reminded me that kids do not only imitate our actions but also our words and way of speaking. He felt it was per-the-course to insist that I use the right words (Yes or No).

This is to encourage all parents (especially mothers):

DO NOT STOP TALKING!
DO NOT STOP TEACHING!
DO NOT STOP CORRECTING!

You may think they are not listening, but trust me when I say, they are. They are soaking it up. Eventually, all that energy (you think is wasted), will manifest in their personality and habits. When my wife keeps talking and talking at Wisdom, I used to think it was a wasteful exercise. Now I know that those words are the little drops of water that makes up the mighty ocean.

Remember, the bible says to train up a child in the way he will go, and when he is old, the effort done years before will be so ingrained in him, he will not depart from it.

So, has this little epistle blessed you, Yes or No?
